ABOUT US.

PBED work alongside the Bikeability Trust and Hampshire County Council to deliver Bikeability training to schools across Test Valley and the Hampshire area. We work in partnership with Pedal Power as Hampshire Cycling Partnership to ensure that all schools across Hampshire have access to the training.

We offer Bikeability Level 1, 2 and 3 training to schools across Hampshire free of charge to students in Year 5-9. We ensure Bikeability is fully accessible to all by supplying bicycles and helmets for those unable to provide their own. We also offer and deliver bespoke cycling events and festivals including guided bike rides, triathlons or biathlons. Our breadth in staff qualifications means that we are able to support multi-sport events.

We offer cycle training and sessions for individuals, schools and groups upon request, including 1:1 session for non-riders or those simply looking to improve their cycling. Our staff are also experienced at delivering sessions with children with additional learning or physical needs.

We are a 1st4sport recognised delivery centre, allowing us to train new instructors in the 1st4Sport Level 2 Award in Instructing Cycle Training qualification, as well as reassess current instructors’ NSI qualification to the new Level 2 Award.

Our Courses

Non-Rider training – we offer bespoke courses for those who are complete beginners, to those who lack confident and would like additional support to develop their skills and knowledge in cycling

Bikeability Level 1 – develops riders’ confidence and control on their cycles in a traffic-free environment. The aim is for riders to demonstrate that they are riding to the National Standard competently, consistently and confidently before participating in Bikeability Level 2.

Bikeability Level 2 – riders develop the skills and confidence to cycle on single-lane traffic, using simple junctions with moderate traffic flow. It is delivered on roads with increasingly challenging junctions. Riders will demonstrate the four core functions and systematic routines in which they demonstrate the National Standard competently, consistently and confidently.

*Level 1 and 2 are often delivered as a combined course

Bikeability Level 3 – Riders must have achieved all of the Level 2 outcomes before participating in Level 3. This course aims to develop riders’ skills and confidence in more diverse and challenging road environments, including complex junctions and busier roads. Riders will link manoeuvres in a planned journey in which they demonstrate the National Standard Assessment criteria competently, consistently and confidently
